Gradient culture container for a
single tissue carrier:


Gradient per(i)fusion presents new perspectives by simulating an organo-typical environment. Within our organs epithelia function as a controlling barrier between two different physiological compartments.

In order to simulate such an environment in vitro epithelia are cultured on cell carriers and are placed inside a gradient container.

The epithelium itself now separates the container into an apical and a basal compartment, which both are constantly per(i)fused with individual media.

Renal cells, for example can be per(i)fused with an urine-like medium on the apical and a serum-like medium on the basal side. The presence of a medium gradient promotes epithelial polarization and helps maintain vectorial transport functions. See references in proceedings.

The containers are also used for testing dental biomaterials for example. See references in proceedings.


In the case gas bubbles are accumulated please turn the gradient container (90°) to the lateral side. The lid is now at the left side. Gas bubbles will leave the gradient container at the outlet tube.
